In 1974, the Oskarshamn ensemble was established, eventually evolving into the Kalmar Läns Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Roman, and ultimately becoming known as Camerata Nordica. To commemorate their 50th anniversary, a special program has been curated featuring the renowned Canadian violinist Kerson Leong as the leader and soloist. Leong, who previously collaborated with Camerata Nordica in 2022 on the program Distant Light is highly regarded internationally for his exceptional artistry. Described by The Strad Magazine as possessing a distinctive style, finesse, and technique, Leong was a natural choice to lead the anniversary concerts.

The program will showcase Vivaldi’s well-known and frequently performed The Four Seasons along with Piazzolla’s lesser-known The Four Seasons in Buenos Aires originally composed between 1965-1969 for a cabaret orchestra. The inspiration for Piazzolla’s work stemmed from providing theater music for the play Melenita de oro, with one season added each year until its completion in 1969.

Adding a nod to Nordic heritage, the program will also feature arrangements for string orchestra of Edward Grieg’s Våren and Erna Tauro’s Höstvisa.
