The concert

This programme traces a clear and beautiful musical arc, brought to life by Malin Broman, one of Sweden’s most celebrated violinists and a longstanding friend of Camerata Nordica. Her dynamic leadership, warm tone and deep musicality make her an ideal guide through this richly colourful journey.

The concert opens with Grace Williams’Sea Sketches, a remarkable portrait of the sea’s ever-changing nature. From restless waves to still, gleaming surfaces, Williams captures a powerful sense of movement and atmosphere. Few works draw the listener so immediately into a sounding landscape.

The journey then continues upward into the air with Vaughan Williams’The Lark Ascending. With Malin Broman as soloist, the work becomes a meditation on light and clarity: the violin soars high above soft harmonies, like a lark in free flight. Its lyrical beauty offers a moment of deep stillness and reflection.

After the interval comes the radiant centrepiece of the evening: Brahms’ String Sextet No. 2, here in Kurt Atterberg’s masterly arrangement for string orchestra. Atterberg expands the sextet’s warm, intricate textures without losing its chamber music intimacy. The result is music of generous breadth and emotional depth — from the expansive opening to the tranquil Adagio and the vivid, dancing finale.

Under Malin Broman’s direction, Camerata Nordica unites these worlds with precision, warmth and great sensitivity. From sea to sky and onward into Brahms’ glowing Romanticism, the programme offers an evening of vivid contrasts and deeply engaging musical storytelling.
