The concert
For the fourth year running, Camerata Nordica rings in the new year with an evening of warmth, wit and irresistible music. Once again, producer and host Urban Wedin takes to the stage as ciceron, guiding the audience through a programme full of surprises and more than a few smiles.
This year, the musical journey extends well beyond Vienna’s traditional New Year’s celebration. Alongside the waltzes and marches of Johann Strauss, the programme draws on composers from across the world: the gentle humour of Leroy Anderson, the sweeping melodies of Franz Lehár, the brilliance of Tchaikovsky, and much more besides. Waltzes, marches, and musical delights that span continents and traditions, all performed with the energy and precision that a ensemble of strings, winds, trumpet, trombone, harp and percussion can uniquely bring.
And as has become a cherished tradition, the evening closes the only way it can: with the Blue Danube and the Radetzky March — the audience warmly encouraged to join in.
Happy New Year!
