After nearly 30 years leading LSO – Länsungdomstråkorkestern, Torbjörn Westman is retiring. Join us for three festive farewell concerts across Kalmar County, where LSO performs alongside professional musicians from Camerata Nordica, with YLO opening each evening.
In Torbjörn’s own words:
About 30 years ago I took the initiative to found LSO – Länsungdomstråkorkestern, where talented young musicians from Kalmar County get to meet and perform alongside professional musicians from Camerata Nordica. We have usually met three times a year and had a wonderful time together. On a few occasions we have also included wind players, bringing together a full symphony orchestra. Now it is time for me to retire, and we want to mark the occasion in style with concerts in our three largest municipalities, Oskarshamn, Kalmar and Västervik. I also want to take the opportunity to perform as soloist on my nyckelharpa, including in Sven-Eric Johansson’s very special nyckelharpa concerto from 1971. The concert opens with YLO – Yngre Länsstråkorkestern, which was started by the county’s string teachers a few years after LSO. Sometimes we have performed a joint piece at the concert, but that will not be the case this time.
