The concert
Camerata Nordica has commissioned many pieces for string orchestra over the years and has actively promoted young composers. Together with violinist Hanna Helgegren, a frequent violinist with the orchestra, the idea emerged to commission a piece based on Swedish folk music inspired by the four seasons. The work is written in a classical style and designed to be presented both as a concert experience with video and as a standalone music video.
Launched in 2023, the project involves filming sessions throughout the four seasons across Sweden to create an immersive experience for the audience—combining music with stunning visuals from around the country.
To enhance the concert experience, it felt natural for Hanna and the orchestra to invite Nyckelharpa player Erik Rydvall, who has steadily risen to prominence in both the Swedish folk and classical music scenes through his baroque performances. In addition, he has composed and recorded music for major international films, series and video games such as Loki, Lord of the Rings – The Rings of Power, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Vikings – Valhalla, God of War, Assasins Creed – Dawn of Ragnarøk and The Witcher – Blood Origin among others.
He will perform in several arrangements of Swedish folk pieces for Nyckelharpa and string orchestra, along with a baroque masterwork by Corelli.
The program will also feature poems by Karin Boye, Tomas Tranströmmer and others interwoven between the pieces, and will include Little Suite by composer Carl Nielsen.
