Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland features countless peculiar sights and characters, yet there's one curious entity the inventive author left out: the cello octet. Rarely encountered on stage, cello octets face a unique challenge—they simply lack a robust repertoire to sustain them.
Thankfully the octet can bring out Alice in Wonderland by Richard Birchall. In four sharp and playful movements, the cellos bring to life the White Rabbit's frantic rush, Alice spinning through a waltz, the chaotic caucus race, the Mad Hatter's topsy-turvy tea party, and the Mock Turtle's reflections—all communicated purely through music. In five additional movements, the piece provides musical backdrops for a miniature rendition of Carroll's text, enhanced by lively impersonations.
In season 24-25 Camerata presents for the first time its cello octet in a repertoire full of surprises together with the soprano Helena Schuback. For this season they are coming back with a great composition for families written by Richard Birchall on the well-known novel Alice in Wonderland in a new translation by Carolina Johansson.
In a 40 min performance the ensemble and a narrator are aiming at every age. On the back of the stage a projection set with illustration produced by two young artists from our region, Kinga and Csenge Lendvai-Kontar!
A great way to bring the entire family together in the concert hall!
